Description:In 1861, the Legislative Assembly of the Territory of Colorado, passed the first law addressing wildlife issues. It stated "it is unlawful to take trout by seine, net, basket or trap" (A Look Back, p. 5). Wilson E. Sisty was appointed the first Fisheries Commissioner of Colorado in 1876; the first Biennial Report of the Fish Commissioner was produced in 1877. In the following years, many laws related to fishing bag limits and licenses were passed. In 1946, the Department of Game and Fish published 1948 Fishing Seasons: Bag Limits and Regulations, and General Rules and Regulations Concerning Game and Fish. Fishing regulations have been published in a brochure since that time including a Spanish language version starting in 2015. [show more]

Description:In 1965 the Colorado State Legislature declared mountain lions a big game animal with seasons and limits. Previously, they were an unprotected and bountied animal. From 1965-1992, mountain lion regulations were included in the annaul Big Game brochure. From 1993-current regulations are published as a separate brochure. Starting in 2020, the regulations are only issued in a digital format.
